SPARTANS RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

SHIDLER, Okla. — The Cedar Vale/Dexter boys basketball team returned to the floor Tuesday night after the long Christmas break, holding host Shidler (Okla.) to 16 points through three quarters of a 62-38 nonleague thrashing.

“It was good to get back on the court after being off for the holidays,” CVD coach K.B. Criss said. “Proud of our kids’ effort and the way we shared the basketball.”

The Spartans (6-0) held Shidler to four first-quarter points and led 29-13 at halftime.

The Tigers (6-2) scored 22 points in the fourth quarter with the game well out of hand.

Fernando Alen Garcia recorded a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, including eight boards from the offensive glass. He also added five steals for the Spartans, who forced 26 turnovers.

Gonzalo Rodriguez Cardo added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and Devonte Harris chipped in eight points for the Spartans, who finished just 5 of 13 from the foul line and committed 21 turnovers.

Kalen Gorr went 4 of 8 from 3-point range in a 19-point effort for the Tigers, who were 11 of 16 from the line.

In other boys games Tuesday night not reported to the CourierTraveler, Douglass fell to Wichita Trinity 58-35 in Central Plains League action. Udall rolled to a 71-54 victory against Pretty Prairie in nonleague play.
