We are well on our way! Students have participated in our beginning of the year local monitoring
systems. Some assessing is still in
progress primarily with the one- on-one assessments occurring in PALS, Kindergarten,
and Title I. We will continue to work
together to specifically identify each student’s instructional strengths and
weaknesses. This will allow us to begin
developing a system of support to ensure the success of each student and our
school. This process is vital to the
evolving process that state of Kansas is embracing. Last spring, Mr. Tarrant provided me with the information
concerning the state’s plans regarding MTSS (Multi-Tier Support Systems). I attend the state conference on September
4-5 in Wichita. Over 800 school
administrators and other team members attended. It was exciting for me to learn more about the processes and the
expectations. I am looking forward to
the changes that will follow with this system. Locally, we will begin examining training options to further pursue
ensuring all students meet and exceed the expectations of AYP.
Anna Baum and I worked on obtaining a grant through Kansas
Nutrition and Wellness to provide Fresh Fruits and Vegetables to our elementary
students as an afternoon snack. We are
excited that we received the grant and have already began implementing the
program. Students are offered a healthy
snack around 2:30 PM free of charge. Students in PALS – Fifth grade are participating. One aspect of the program is for the teacher
to be a role model by participating in the program along with the students.
Classroom instruction on healthy eating habits is another aspect. I hope to see this program continued in the
coming school years.
Please note the bulletin board in the lunchroom. This board is a Mystery Milk Mustache board
and helps us promote drinking milk. Anna will be sending features of the board to the Dairy council as
indicated by Ms. Works, KSDE.
We are expecting 100% contact with our parents during this
week for conferences.
